LET’S GET AN ADRENALINE KICK WITH RACHAEL

The guest you’re listening to today, Rachael, in this episode of Humans of SDU is the ultimate adrenaline chaser! She loves pole dancing, acrobatics, and aerial silk. In her free time, she teaches pole dancing and aerial silk in Pole Republic. Originally from Ireland, Rachael has lived in Denmark for about 4 years. She has done marine biology research at SDU and today she’s a marine biologist and lives in the Maldives (we’re very jealous). Listen to this episode to find out:

  • Can you burn yourself while performing with hoops on fire?
  • Why did she recently trespass on a farm?
  • What marine creature caught her eye as a biologist?

How did we find Rachael?

Rachael was referred to us by Blaise (one of our other guests on this podcast). We were very lucky to catch her for the episode when we did as she moved to the Maldives soon after our recording – and now posts Instagram stories of such beauty that watching them during Danish winter has been almost unbearable.

Portrait of Rachael

“I’ve been performing with hula hooping for a really long time. It was my job in Dublin, I was doing performances for festivals and nightclubs where you obviously have LED equipment because otherwise nobody sees you. But when I was younger, I was attending a lot of festivals, so I was very inspired by fire performances there. And I just started fire hooping.”

RACHAEL

Originally, Rachael is from Ireland and she moved to Odense 4 years ago. As it is very clear from our conversation, she is absolutely in love with working with her body and kicking up her adrenaline (and ours) with all the different activities that she pursues. She has been part of different circuses before where all her friends and her get together to put on a really captivating show for the viewers! Initially, she had a hard time in Odense but since Dynamo (where she practices some of her activities) opened, she has started liking Odense more.

This episode is another proof of what you can discover when you take the time to talk to a person. Although it may sound like that this is Rachael’s career – it actually isn’t! She is a marine biologist who has worked as a research assistant in the nearby city of Kerteminde. Apart from that, she is also trying to go zero waste – and she helps animals in her free time when she can, which makes her an awesome activist as well! So if you are curious about her stories, listen to the episode!
