HUMOUR AS A WEAPON
The third episode of Humans of SDU introduces Linda. As a medicine student, she found a student job at a senior home. One would say that such a job is difficult enough. But Linda has it slightly more difficult because, as a Muslim, she wears a headscarf, and not many people at the home are used to that. Fortunately for her, she is one of the funniest people we have ever met and so she is able to maneuver these uneasy situations with brilliant jokes.
- What is the most challenging part of working with elderly people?
- Why is it a job that every medicine student should try?
- How does she use humor to make awkward situations feel less awkward?
How did we find Linda?
The story of Esben, with which we started this whole podcast, turned out to be a great episode and so we decided to reach out to our flatmates at Campus Kollegiet again.
Anna and Martin have previously talked with Linda about her studies and her part-time job in a nearby senior home and since Linda is a very open-minded person, she had no issues joining us behind the mics and sharing her stories.
What is exceptional about this episode of Humans of SDU is that although we go into rather unpleasant topics with Linda – work with the elderly, death, religious discrimination – it does not have a gloomy atmosphere at all. It is very easy to talk these topics over with Linda and she shows us how to approach them with love and humor.
