H2O: JUST ADD WATER
Let’s jump right into it with the water polo player and sport-sciences student Philip. In the 38th episode of Humans of SDU, we learn that Philip volunteers in a local club as a coach and he also explains how coaching is being done differently in Denmark and in the rest of the world. At the end of the episode, you’ll learn some tips and tricks about staying fit and healthy during the lockdown.
- How did Philip end up on the water polo team?
- How did he enjoy spending his summers as a lifeguard?
- What does he think about people who don’t like being in the water?
How did we find Philip?
Mutual friends and the same sport brought Philip and Franka together! Both of them live in SDU’s dorm Campus Kollegiet and both play water polo. Even though they met before Franka joined the podcast team, he was the first person she thought of to interview! Many volleyball matches and conversations later, Franka asked him if he was interested to talk about their shared love for water polo and water sports – spoiler alert: he said yes!

“When you jump in the water, it feels like gravity works differently. You don’t have your feet solid planted in the ground so to some extent, you’re actually losing control. “
PHILIP
Despite the lockdown, we were able to meet Philip in person – he even brought us some coffee! Not only was Philip a lifesaver with this act, but he literally saves lives working as a lifeguard during the summer. That’s not the only water-related activity in his life as he is a former swimmer who currently plays and coaches water polo. Add a lot of intelligence about how the body works and you have a full package – Philip!
