FROM BADMINTON TO VEGANISM – HONGYUN’S MASTER THESIS
Listen to the 5th episode of Humans of SDU where you can meet HongYun. Although she is already studying for her Master’s, it’s been only a few months since she opened her Facebook account and started using Google and Youtube. How come? She comes from China where these tools are not available. How does she feel about these changes and why is she writing a thesis on veganism when she is not a vegan herself?
- What came into HongYun’s way when she was choosing her Master thesis topic?
- How did she feel when she tried the vegan diet herself?
- What does a “friend” mean to her and how does she meet people in Denmark?
How did we find HongYun?
HongYun was Anna’s classmate in spring 2020 and they started talking once and discussing how it is for each of them to settle in Denmark and to stay in touch with their friends back at home.
This itself turned out to be the main topic of the episode, which was recorded a few weeks later after that chit-chat. HongYun shared with us that finding new friends in Denmark was slightly problematic for her at the beginning and she also gave us some tips that helped her overcome this challenge (spoiler alert: alcohol included).

“In China, we can’t use Facebook, Google, or Youtube. And official Chinese data are different to Youtubers and media here. These different voices are coming and I feel very confused.”
